Strategy

The Employment Fund’s strategy. More detailed description can be found on the next text paragraph.

The basis of the Employment Fund is illustrated by our values: our customers come first, we renew, evolve and act, and we are a united team. These values guide our everyday operations.

Our task is to provide security for changes in working life. We finance unemployment allowances and adult education benefits that secure the livelihood of employees that have been laid-off, are unemployed or are adult students.

Our vision is to be an excellent executor of social security. During 2020, we have focused on building a strong foundation for the Employment Fund and taking the first steps in our strategy implementation. We will take bold actions but prioritise them in such a way that our activities can continue in the future. Continuous development is at the heart of our operation – simplification of operations, efficiency and quality, and human centricity – are the work descriptions and skills that support our development.

Future outlook

In 2021, we will continue to build a strong foundation to perform our statutory tasks and advance our strategic goals. An assessment of the effects of the adult education allowance reform will be completed by the end of 2021.

The effects of the coronavirus pandemic will continue well into 2021, and there is no prospect of a rapid change in employment. The economy is expected to slightly recover. We estimate that the change in our net assets will be clearly in deficit in 2021 and that the net assets of the business cycle buffer will be approximately 500 million euros at the end of the year.

Personnel

We developed our digital skills and switched to working remotely during the coronavirus pandemic

Contented personnel is key to our operations. Following the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, all of our staff switched to working remotely for the time being. According to a survey on occupational wellbeing conducted in cooperation with occupational health care services, our personnel appreciate the possibility to work remotely.

In 2020, the focus of staff training was on the development of digital skills and management training. Strengthening the digital skills of our employees has supported telecommuting, and by training our management, our aim is to create an excellent management culture through leadership coaching. During the year, we improved our skills and developed our roles, and we were able to harmonise our work practices. At the end of 2020, the Employment Fund employed 171 people.
